This is a long review, but I feel the St. Regis did not cut any corners, so I should show the same attention to detail as they did. I also will not specifically mention any staff by name, because that would be unfair to the staff I didn’t mention as each and every person who works on the island are extremely professional and welcoming.
As a Platinum SPG member I have spent over 100 nights in a hotel just in 2016 alone. When it is time for vacation I often wish to be at home for 5 consecutive nights, but if I were asked to make a choice between home and the St. Regis Maldives I would pick the St. Regis each and every time. My family (wife and two children, 5 and 7 years old) had an incredible stay. The staff is all truly professional and the best in the business. What the general manager, Mark, and his colleagues have been able to achieve since opening the resort is truly an incredible accomplishment. They have not left one detail unturned and have created a true gem that can’t be matched by any of the other Maldives resorts. Starting with the butlers who meet you at the Male airport and take you immediately to a luxury out van (with Wi-Fi service!!) for a 5 minute ride to the lounge where you wait for the sea plane transfer. At the lounge they offer food and refreshments, and if you are arriving after a long flight there is even the option to shower and freshen up. Once you reach the island the service only builds on this experience. The Dive Center offered great services, including free snorkeling gear, kayaks, and paddle boards. Should you not want to walk around the island, which is a perfect size for a 30 minute walk along the beach, than rest assured because your butler is never too far away with their golf cart to take you anywhere you wish to go. The infinity pool at Alba is a great place to hang out during the day, with staff offering free frozen fruit kebabs and fresh squeezed juice. But if you don’t want to be at the larger pool, no worries as each villa has its own infinity pool. The interior decorations of the villas is spot on, again with every detail taken into account. The IPad that controls the TV, curtains, lights, thermostat, and everything else in the room shows that they did not spare any expense in designing the resort. We enjoyed a relaxing two hours at the spa’s hydrotherapy pool. The staff at the kids club were also tremendous. They had great activities for the kids, mixing quiet time of arts and crafts with active time running around playing indoor soccer and going out on the playground.
The food is tremendous. All the food and drinks are made fresh with fresh ingredients. Non-stop access to fresh squeezed juices was a highlight. We especially enjoyed the breakfast buffet at Alba. Pizza at Crust, the hut next to Alba, was also well-prepared. Dinner at the Whale Bar seems to be over looked by many guests, as most people go there for drinks and to watch the sunset. But don’t let this dinner spot pass you up. We went for dinner and had incredible tapas while seated on the deck peering up at the stars. Staff were so attentive that they recognized that we had small children with us and came over and showed them a video of an octopus that was swimming around the bar earlier that day and showed them an IPad app to stargaze. The dinner options at the Orient, which is really three separate restaurants in one (India, Japanese, and Chinese), was tremendous. In terms of food we would recommend the Kids Pass for your children’s meal options, which at $30/day for lunch and dinner is a great way to avoid having to buy them a $50 entre they may not eat. We also used the in-room dining service a couple nights. I am purposely not calling this room service, as the food quality is far superior than even your above average room service. It comes at the perfect temperature. Just be forewarned that you will need to order it well in advance, especially during peak times.
We spent Christmas at the resort, and this again showed how they spared no expense. There was a great Christmas eve meal at Alba. The kids club organized a Christmas tree lighting party with carols and snacks. Kids went around the island caroling. Christmas morning Santa arrived on a Jet Ski bearing personalized gifts for each of the children, while parents were treated to champagne, ice cream and cookies on the beach.
Finally should something go wrong-as we had happen with a hiccup with our seaplane transport-this is again where the St. Regis’s top-notch customer service is there is address any problems and ensure that everything is quickly corrected.
